HDAY

What is Humanitarian Day?

Humanitarian Day (HDAY) is a faith in action movement founded and fueled during the sacred month of Ramadan, where Muslim fast to celebrate the revelation of the Holy Quran.

Designed to cultivate gratefulness, humility, and a deep desire to serve, HDAY provides essential care packages, health screenings, leadership training, and other community engagement services to those experiencing poverty and homelessness.

It is not merely a day of service—it is a Life Mission.

One that brings people of all backgrounds together to restore dignity, build community, and turn compassion into action.

How did HDAY Began?

Before Humanitarian Day, ILM Foundation and Dawah 2000, founded by Naim Shah Sr., were deeply embedded in grassroot services visible on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, where they regularly provided food and care to unhoused residents.

Among their earliest initiatives were two impactful Skid Row Ramadan Feedings, which served as an early blueprint for something much bigger. See photos of the Muslim Journal articles here

Then in 2001, came September 11th. In a moment of global uncertainty, Imam Saadiq offered a local answer: ‘Put our faith into action.’ That action became Humanitarian Day.”

HDAY expanded the scope of the early Ramadan Feeding blueprint by establishing the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity with 20+ community faith partners, essential item vendors, healthcare services, hygiene kits, and other services.

Convert One Day into a Life Mission became the new slogan a start of an unbelievable movement that is still growing today.
